Only to the base towns, not to the shrines themselves. Caravans can reach Barkot (Yamunotri base), Uttarkashi (Gangotri base), Sonprayag or Gauri Kund (Kedarnath base), and Joshimath (Badrinath base). Beyond those points the roads narrow, shared-taxi shuttles take over, and for Yamunotri and Kedarnath the final stretch is a foot trek or helicopter. Plan caravan overnight stops at the base towns and arrange the temple day-trip separately. Char Dham registration via the Uttarakhand Tourism portal is mandatory for all pilgrims regardless of transport mode.

Caravans cannot enter Corbett’s core safari zones (Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhela). The Forest Department admits only authorised safari vehicles. You base outside the park at Ramnagar, Dhikuli, or the Kumeria approach and book jeep or canter safaris separately. Inside-park overnight stays are only available at Forest Rest Houses (Dhikala, Gairal, Sarapduli) with advance Forest Department booking, and these do not accommodate your caravan. Treat Corbett as a 2-night caravan base plus a separate half-day safari.

Kumaon, for most first trips. The Nainital lake district (Nainital, Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal, Mukteshwar) offers four distinct overnight options within 30 kilometres, elevation stays between 1,200 and 2,200 metres, NH-109 from Haldwani is excellent tarmac, and dhabas and supermarkets are plentiful. Garhwal demands more driving between stops and the Char Dham corridor carries heavy pilgrim traffic in season. Reserve Garhwal for a second visit that includes Mussoorie, Rishikesh, and a Chopta extension, and string Kumaon plus Corbett on the first.

Not directly. The Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib both require a vehicle transfer at Govindghat, 22 kilometres before the trek head at Ghangaria. From Govindghat you walk or take a mule to Ghangaria (13 km), then trek onward to the valley (3 km) or Hemkund (6 km and a 1,100-metre climb). Caravans overnight at Joshimath (20 km before Govindghat) which has open parking and dhabas. The trek window is late June through early October. The Valley of Flowers is genuinely spectacular in July and August monsoon, despite the drive restrictions.

Avoid both towns entirely during Kanwar Yatra (mid-July to early August). Millions of Shiva devotees carry Ganga water along the Delhi–Haridwar–Rishikesh corridor on foot, and the highways are blocked to non-pilgrim vehicles for days at a time. Outside Kanwar, caravan parking in Rishikesh is at Swarg Ashram, Tapovan, or the Neelkanth Mahadev road; Haridwar caravans park at Chandi Chowk or Rishikul and auto into Har Ki Pauri. Never attempt to drive a caravan to the ghats directly. Kumbh Mela years (next full at Haridwar: 2033) are even more restricted.

Yes for experienced highway drivers, split over two days for first-time caravan trips. Delhi to Haldwani via NH-9 is 280 kilometres of excellent four-lane expressway, typically 5 to 6 hours in a caravan. Haldwani to Nainital is 40 kilometres on NH-109 with steady climb from 400 to 2,000 metres, 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic. For a relaxed run, overnight at Haldwani, Kaladhungi, or a Corbett buffer lodge on the first day and ascend to Nainital fresh on day two. This also helps acclimatisation for travellers from the plains.

Auli yes with caveats, Chopta conditionally. Auli sits at 2,500 metres above Joshimath; caravans reach Joshimath on NH-58 (drivable all winter except after heavy snowfall) and the final 12-kilometre climb to Auli requires a vehicle with chains or AWD. Confirm with your operator that the specific caravan is winter-rated before booking. Chopta at 2,680 metres has NH access through Ukhimath but snow-closures are common between January and March. Check Uttarakhand roads Twitter handle before departure. For reliable winter snow without caravan complications, Mussoorie above Landour is the easiest pick.
